48 hours in Lisbon: The perfect guide

If you only have 48 hours in Lisbon, get ready for two days full of history, flavours and good energy. Here is the perfect itinerary to experience the city step by step, including must-see stops, dream views and an unmissable discovery: A Garagem da Vizinha, in Picoas.

Day 1 – The classic charm of Lisbon

Start your morning in Chiado, the elegant heart of the city. Have breakfast at the legendary A Brasileira, where the aroma of coffee mingles with the buzz of the streets. Then walk to Alfama, Lisbon's oldest neighbourhood, climb up to São Jorge Castle and stop at the Santa Luzia and Portas do Sol viewpoints for the best photos of the Tagus River.

At the end of the morning, head down to Baixa Pombalina and stroll along Rua Augusta, ending up at Terreiro do Paço, by the river. It is the ideal place to have a light lunch at one of the restaurants with outdoor seating to experience the city's tradition.

In the afternoon, take the tram or metro to Cais do Sodré and cross the footbridge to LX Factory in Alcântara, a former industrial complex transformed into a creative space with independent shops, urban art murals and alternative cafés.

When night falls, head towards Picoas, in Avenidas Novas, and discover A Garagem da Vizinha, a multifaceted space that combines a restaurant, sports bar and event stage. It's the perfect spot for dinner after a day of sightseeing. The menu combines Portuguese snacks and international dishes in a relaxed atmosphere, ideal for unwinding. Keep an eye on the programme: there are live concerts, stand-up nights, quiz nights and other surprises to liven up the Lisbon night.

Day 2 – Culture, brunch and breathtaking views

After a lively evening, start the second day with a hearty buffet breakfast at Garagem da Vizinha. Then walk to Eduardo VII Park, one of the city's largest green spaces, and enjoy the views over Avenida da Liberdade and the River Tagus.

From here, take the metro to Belém, where some of Lisbon's greatest icons await you: the Jerónimos Monastery, the Belém Tower and MAAT, the museum of art, architecture and technology, which is also one of the most photogenic buildings in the city. Don't forget to try the famous Pastel de Belém, a must-try tradition!

To end the weekend on a high note, take a taxi or tuk tuk to the Senhora do Monte viewpoint in Graça. At sunset, the view over Lisbon is simply unforgettable, the perfect setting to toast the city before returning home.

And if you want to stay in a great location during your stay, choose one of the WOTELS hostels in Lisbon: WOT Patio, near Avenida da Liberdade, or WOT Lisbon Nomad, in the Picoas area. Both combine comfort, a youthful atmosphere and the ideal location for exploring the city on foot or by metro.

From Chiado to Alfama, from Belém to Picoas, this 48-hour itinerary shows you the best of Lisbon and, of course, takes you to the place where the city meets at the table: A Garagem da Vizinha.
